Appendix Z: Notes of Mine
This reference says that, in 1994, Paula Rego “began to experiment with pastels and has continued to use them ever since. She describes working with pastels ‘like painting with your fingers’.” Rego was 59 years old.
On May 21, 2024, if my records are accurate, I discovered that article about Rego. Maybe during middle age I also would discover my calling, and maybe it would be soft pastels. The latter guess was wrong. But on that date, I purchased a poster of the artwork featured on the Tate’s webpage about soft pastels. The next day I began art classes at the Houston School of Art & Design. As I write this, I am 55 years old.
